Facing the new international context imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Meliá Hotels International Cuba works on new strategies to introduce original and attractive services, in order to cater for new needs of important segments on the travel market. One of these emerging areas is, undoubtedly, Remote Work, which has already modified employment patterns at international level.
To that end, Meliá Cuba is working with the authorities of the island’s Ministry of Tourism and stakeholders, in a proposal for a new accommodation regime, which has as its basis, encouraging trips and stays to carry out Remote Work from Cuba. Remote work can be carried out from anywhere in the world and Cuba is an ideal destination for it. Especially, for the levels of health safety it can provide to the traveler. The country has also managed the current pandemic in an exemplary way, a condition recognized worldwide that endorses it as a safe destination in the region. This combination of factors provides an opportunity and advantage for travelers from Canada who can apply for Visas to remain in the island up to six months.
On the other hand, Meliá Hotels International Cuba has important resources and infrastructure to start operating with this new segment. It has facilities in both city hotels and leisure destinations, that offer excellent technological benefits, adjustable room types for long stays and complementary customer services. In addition, the company has already implemented its new safety and hygiene protocols through the global Stay Safe with Meliá program, as well as those provided by the Ministry of Tourism and stakeholders, attaining reference environments for clients and workers in their hotels.
“Cuba and Meliá are the perfect allies to carry out this initiative,” said Francisco Camps, Deputy Director General of the Cuba Division. “Our effort, experience, and joint work with tourism institutions in Cuba, will allow us to advance in this new challenge. One more step to continue building together a prosperous and sustainable future for tourism in the island”.
