12th Biennial: an explosion of art in Havana

The travel section of The New York Times recently referred to the forthcoming Havana Biennial as one of the main attractions when visiting Cuba. This Caribbean country’s greatest visual arts event is now in its twelfth year and will be held from 22 May to 22 June, with the key aim of experiencing the city and its people, and including them in the magic of creation. This year, the programme of activities includes performances from the worlds of dance, theatre, music, film and literature. In the words of one of the organisers: “It won’t be a Biennial for collectors or gallerists, but rather to make a connection with the city”. There will be no official opening or specific venue; art will spill out of the galleries, bursting into the streets which will be bubbling with ideas.
