Get ready to discover Cuba: 5 questions to answer before traveling to the island! (+Infographic)

On November 15th 2021, Cuba reopened its borders to international tourism, welcoming travelers with renovated facilities, comprehensive health protocols and a high rate of immunization against COVID-19.

However, with the expansion of the omicron strain, it became necessary to update the protocols that must be followed by those who arrive on the Caribbean island. Do you want to know what are the changes and how they will influence your stay with Meliá Cuba? Here we answer the most frequently asked questions for you:

Q: Do I need to show COVID-19 related documentation to enter Cuba?

A: Yes. You must present a complete vaccination certificate (Cuba recognizes approved vaccines in all countries) and a negative result of a PCR test carried out no more than 72 hours before your arrival. For travelers from Canada and Russia, PCR proof is not necessary.

Q: What should I do if I have symptoms or suspicion of COVID-19 while on vacation?

A: You must stay in your room and contact the Guest Experience service (you will have the information available at all times). Our team will assist you on how to access medical care and the necessary tests.

Q: I took a PCR test in Cuba and the result is positive, what will happen?

A: As part of the security protocols, we will accommodate you in a room in an isolation area of the hotel. It will not be necessary to take you to a medical institution, unless your symptoms demand it. If you shared a room with other people (family, friends) they should also stay isolated. The health staff will be aware of the situation at all times, and Meliá Cuba will continue to offer you the services to take care of you during your period of isolation (food, room cleaning, internet connection…).

Q: If I am being treated for COVID-19 in isolation and need to spend more days in the hotel, do I have to pay for the extra stay?

A: No. In this case, Meliá Cuba will assume the cost of the additional days you must remain in our establishment.

Q: Do I have to comply with any measures, even if my result is negative?

A: The Stay Safe With Meliá protocol works in all our facilities, designed following the most up-to-date standards of the World Health Organization and the Cuban Ministry of Public Health. It consists on a set of measures that we implement to guarantee your safety while you enjoy your stay. For your part, we ask you to take basic precautions to take care of yourself and those around you: practice social distancing, always disinfect your hands and personal belongings, wear a mask in the public areas of the hotel and follow any instructions you receive from health personnel.

Cuba awaits you! Its wonderful beaches, heritage cities and dreamlike landscapes are today safer and equally charming destinations. Live your holidays safely with Meliá Cuba… and you won’t want to do anything else!
