The distinguished group upholds classical, romantic, neoclassic and contemporary styles and a repertoire of more than a hundred ballets. This splendid company constantly finds itself with the challenge of surpassing previous artistic proposals while at the same time preserving the aesthetic principles and the dictates of the Cuban School of Ballet.
Camaguey Folkloric Ballet
What you get to see in the spotlight is a genuine and unique externalization of Cuban dance-musical traditions, an icon of Cuban culture but with very special traits pertaining to its geographical zone. It is the result of hundreds of years of Cuban, Hispanic, African and French-Haitian cultural mixing, placing itself as an authentic expression of Cuban idiosyncrasy. This ballet offers you a repertoire of 8 categories of manifestations, each one with its own subcategories, going from Rumba to popular Cuban dance such as the Chachachá or Mambo among others, which will be more than enough to entertain you.
The different proposals of this ballet show the way the people of Camaguey are and can be counted in around 70 active plays out of more than 150. The energy transmitted on stage is amazing, the techniques for the unique dance language somehow seems like an organized spontaneity of which you run the risk of becoming addicted.
Camaguey Contemporary Ballet
Previously known as Endedans Contemporary Ballet it is the only group in centre, eastern Cuba with dancers with a strong base of classical formation bringing contemporary proposals. Its aesthetic clearly reflects the necessity of expression of its dancers. In their plays it has travelled from a constant search and projection of meanings transmitted by symbolism to a dance that is closer to contemporary in their constant search of renovation.
There is a variety of genres you can find in the company’s repertoire and we must highlight the personalized theatrical dance, the vestments and the outstanding lighting effects, all complemented by the body language of the dancers, and the virtuosity of the characters represented by its young interpreters.
One of the characteristics of this modern dance is the force they project on stage. This ballet is renowned in the Cuban contemporary scene and has been honoured with numerous awards.
The company’s latest release include “Divertimento Barroco”, “Abrazo Perdurable”, “Retrato en tus ojos” with music from the well-known Cuban pianist Frank Fernández, among other significant composers.
