ICAIC Youth Film Festival
This festival is celebrated each year with the aim of showcasing the doings of Cuba’s young cinematographic talent by stimulating awareness and reflection around it and also to boost dialogue between different generations of producers. This time it will take place from the 3rd to the 8th of April. It has been labelled as one of the Island’s main yearly events by Roberto Smith, president of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC).
Ernest Hemingway International Swordfish Catch Tournament
From the 21st to the 26th of May once again Cuba will host the Ernest Hemingway tournament dedicated to the Nobel Prize in Literature. Each year the Hemingway Marina located in Havana hosts the main sport fishing event in Cuba. It is the oldest in its category and the method used is “tag and Release” in line with international standards.
“Boleros de Oro” Music Festival
Admirers of Cuban born romantic song genre called Bolero will be able to delight in the 30thedition of the Boleros de Oro Music Festival taking place from the 20th to the 24th of June. Organized by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) it’s a fantastic opportunity to rendezvous with singers, composers, researchers, specialists and admirers in order to participate in the biggest festival of its kind worldwide.
Mayo Teatral
It’s a theatre lover’s space to recreate between the 11th to the 20th of May. This festival hosted by “Casa de Las Americas” constitutes an opportunity for Latin American and Caribbean groups to reflect their theatrical thinking. It is scenery where diverse discourses making young talents meet consecrated social compromise and resistance theatre maestros.
Parallel to the festival ateliers, conferences, presentations and publishing of theatre books occur.
Romerías de Mayo
Set up by the Hermanos Saíz Association from the 2nd to the 8th of May in Holguin, it celebrates art and tradition by the hands of artists, intellectuals and culture promoters, national and international alike.For a week the city doesn’t sleep as different art forms take to the streets, be it rock concerts, street theatre, Cuban salsa or traditional popular music among others.
CubaDisco 2018
Dedicated to the 130th birth of Ignacio Piñeiro, one of the most important exponents of Cuban Son genre, it’s the most important event in the Cuban music calendar; a prestigious contest of Cuban music along with its different genres. At the same time there are spaces conductive to debate and reflection for theoreticians, creators and music executives.
Occurring from the 13th to the 20th of May it will be held in different locations in Havana and the program will include disc and audiovisual presentations, specialist visits, expositions and prominent figure presentations.
One of the top and more refined spots to enjoy Cuban music during the festival or during the rest of the year is the “Habana Café” in Meliá Cohiba Hotel in the centre of Havana.
Varadero Gourmet
From the 27th to the 30th of June the Plaza América Convention Centre in Varadero will host the 10th Edition of the event. The purpose is to promote professional knowledge exchange in the fields of world-class cocktail making and gastronomy.
It includes contests of Cuban haute cuisine and cocktail making, and also facilitates debates around gastronomic creativity and different combinations of food and beverages.
Business rounds of national and international business partners linked to tourism are also included.
CIRCUBA
Being the 3rdoldest of its kind and international reference the CIRCUBA International Circus Festival will take place from the 24th to the 29th of June. It is a chance to admire the magic and merit of 50 years of the Cuban National Circus.
