Meliá Cuba ‘s 2017 golf season is eagerly awaited! Based at Meliá Las Américas, the largest international hotel company in Cuba will have three different events for golf lovers in May , September and October. All three of them have similar programs of 4 days, one day of practice , one day of par 3 tournament and 2 days of competition closed by an award dinner . They all sound like favorites to me!
Opening the season, the 4th Meliá Las Américas Golf Cup is taking place , from 17th to 20th of May for both professional or amateur golfers over 18 years old with a Handicap of 26 or below for men, and of 36 or below for women. The competition will consist of stroke play in the Ladies and Gentlemen categories and participants will be grouped according to their handicap. The players with the best net scores in each category will win a free two nights stay in a Meliá Hotels International resort in Cuba .This will be the 4th edition of the Cup. Previous editions were attended by many famous players from abroad and also from Cuba .
For the first time, a new event will be held, the Varadero Cuba Golf Cup by Meliá Cuba, from 20th to 23rd September. This tournament will be celebrated for the first time at the Varadero Golf Club because there were many players interested in the Melia Golf Cup every year and not all of them could enter the tournament , so a new event was created to cover the demand. This event can be entered by professional or amateur golfers over 18 years of age. The tournament will be played in stroke-play format, in teams of 4 players, over 18 holes and will according to the rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and to local rules, which will be provided to the participants as appropriate. The winners and runners-up in each category will be awarded trophies and there will also be prizes for various skills.
This time the golf season will close with the traditional Meliá Cuba Golf Cup ,from 18th to 21st October on its ninth edition. This tournament, a specialist annual event, is played in stroke-play format for the first Gentlemen and Ladies categories, and in Stable ford format for the second categories and it is considered a professional event for golfers , who are given the opportunity to experience playing on the best course in Cuba.
The three events will take place at Varadero Golf Club, a narrow strip of land of over 60 hectares parallel to the beach. Playing areas surrounded by woods with native plants and dotted with lagoons turn this extremely attractive course into a unique adventure. In addition , our Five-Star resort for adults only , Meliá Las Américas has hosted this kind of golf cups since they first started in Cuba , being recommended by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).
