We would like to share with you the most significant engagements of Meliá in Cuba as well as the most outstanding awards and acknowledgements received in the year nearly ends.
Meliá International Hotel & Sol Varadero Beach openings
This year we were proud to announce the opening of two brand new hotels in Varadero, Meliá Internacional and Sol Varadero Beach. The former an ultra-modern hotel, son of the world famous International Hotel, opened up February. Located in the best beach area it constitutes one of the most innovative hotels of Meliá on the island. It has 946 rooms spread throughout 11 floors and its cosy and contemporary design incorporates automation technologies in order to offer more comfort to its clients.
Sol Varadero Beach, on the other hand, brings into the destination a new Sol experience for adults only. With a variety of restaurants, bars and comfortable and modern rooms, the facility is the perfect haven for those wanting to combine fun and a top notch services.

200th anniversary of Cienfuegos
Melia’s hotels in this beautiful city were pleased to form part of its recently celebrated bicentenary, the feasts were packed of activities for the enjoyment of locals and foreign visitors alike, celebrating the birthday of this French flavour destination full of art and nautical activities among others.

Awards received
Known as the “Oscars” of the tourism industry the World Travel Awards are the most important recognition of the sector and they were given to the Paradisus Varadero Resort & Spa hotel managed by Meliá Cuba in the category of -Cuba´s Leading Resort-. Its magnificent natural surrounding make it the perfect option for leisure and professional trips. The hotel stands out due to the exclusive experience that services like -Royal Service- (only for adults) and The Reserve offer.
The Meliá Cayo Coco (8) and Meliá Buenavista (23) hotels were included in the Travellers´ Choice awards by TripAdvisor out of a total of 25 of the most popular All Inclusive tourism complexes in the Caribbean. The importance of this online global reference constitutes a significant recognition of the high quality of services of these hotels in a highly competitive environment.
Also a total of 15 Meliá Hotels International Cuba managed hotels received the 2019 Certificate of Excellence given by the prestigious travel website TripAdvisor. This pays tribute to the performance of hotel staff and managers, making evident their commitment to service excellence.
The receivers were the Paradisus Río de Oro, Meliá Las Américas, Meliá Cohiba, Meliá Santiago de Cuba, Meliá Habana, Meliá Cayo Coco, Meliá Varadero, Meliá Buenavista and Sol Cayo Coco hotels. The Paradisus Los Cayos, Meliá San Carlos, Sol Palmeras, Tryp Cayo Coco, as well as the Gran Hotel By Meliá and La Unión by Meliá are recurring since they were also awarded last year.
Participation in FITCUBA 2019 and DESTINOS GAVIOTA fairs
The DESTINOS GAVIOTA 2019 – TOURISM TRADE FAIR was another opportunity to reaffirm its involvement in the development of the industry on the island where Meliá showcased main projects and renovations in partnership with the Cuban Gaviota Tourism Group.
Meliá also participated in the 39th Edition of the -FITCUBA 2019- International Tourism Fair that took place last May, this fair constitutes Cuba’s platform regarding everything that has to do with the “Leisure Industry” on the island. The Meliá Hotels International group presented its newest projects regarding the development of tourism in Cuba, making evident its deep compromise with the sector in Cuba.

The focus of Melia’s attention
The reasons why so many clients come to Cuba repeatedly are plentiful, ranging from the hospitality of the Cuban people, culture, great weather, beautiful beaches, you name it, yet more than one visitor have also named the excellent Meliá hotels as being the specific reason why they always lodge at the same facilities. “They treat us like gold, like family, they’re always smiling, always happy” is the opinion of one of the hundreds visitors who stay with us every year. Meliá Events and Outlets
The always locally popular Meliá events had yet another successful season in the great hotel facilities that Meliá has to offer. Golfers had the time of their lives with the two golf cups and two golf weeks; singles had the perfect opportunity to meet their match in the two editions of the Singles Party. The Argentinian week and the Viva Mexico events were consolidated even further as a platform to celebrate and exchange with other cultures that are very close to the Cuban heart. Finally, the perpetually massive Oktoberfest put a gold stamp to all these gatherings.
On the other hand the Meliá Outlets special offers under the slogan of “Vacations with Meliá”, geared towards domestic customers had another positive season where families, couples and groups of friends took advantage of special offers to spend time and relax in Meliá hotels.
Havana 500th anniversary celebrations
With Havana’s birthday in mind this year Meliá put together 7 authentically Cuban experiences in the capital’s urban hotels. These included: cigar, rum and café pairing at cigar houses, salsa dance classes, special 500th anniversary diners and the tasting of the Cuban “Adam and Eve “cocktail in the place where it was born, all to soak you up with just a bit of what this marvellous city has to offer.

Meliá Distingue Program kept awarding employees during 2019
The honour of being named a “Distinguished” worker of the Meliá team is the time spared by the hotel chain to celebrate and thank the staff whose exceptional work has earned them this condition. It comes as a result of the daily hard work and quality in the delivery of services, something that Meliá always considers has to be acknowledged and appreciated.
